Thank you, Taylor Swift, for providing me with exactly the kind of content I want to wake up to on a Monday morning. Last night musicians gathered for the iHeartRadio Music Awards, which was opened by a performance from Justin Bieber. At the end of said performance, the broadcast cut to Taylor Swift in the audience.
That’s not exactly a revolutionary choice, considering every award show seems to be 75% Swift reaction shots. But this reaction was a little different than what we’re used to from Taylor. What we’re used to, of course, is enthusiastic arm-flailing and creating a megaphone with her hands so her supportive shouts carry farther. What we saw after Bieber’s performance, however, was markedly different. Here it is in all its shady glory.
You might be thinking, “What’s the big deal? She clapped. She just got really thirsty at that precise moment.” To which I say, you must not spend a lot of time around people you dislike. That is a classic “I can’t stand him, ugh” move. And as we know, Taylor hasn’t been shy about her distaste for Bieber in the past. Remember the infamous tongue moment above? Plus, did you see Bieber’s new dreadlocks? Who wouldn’t shade those?
It also helps to take a look at this video from Entertainment Tonight, which compares Taylor’s reaction to Bieber to how she reacted to performances from people like Meghan Trainor and Fetty Wap. Here’s a spoiler for you — her reaction was very enthusiastic for both of them. She didn’t even glance at her drink, let alone sip from it. And can we just take a moment to appreciate that Calvin Harris was already mid-sip when the show cut to him? He truly is The One.
