Months after Taylor Swift won her case against a radio DJ she accused of sexual harassment, there’s even more controversy surrounding the DJ. Another radio station hired David Mueller, despite the fact that he was convicted of groping Taylor during a radio meet and greet — yes, while he was at work — and apparently, his new boss doesn’t even think he’s guilty.
In case you were living under a rock last fall, Taylor finally went to court to face off with David after he touched her butt during a meet and greet in Denver while she was on tour in June 2013. When the incident happened, Taylor reported it to the station, and David was fired, which led to him suing her for $3 million, claiming that he was innocent. But that only led to Taylor countersuing him for one symbolic dollar — a suit she won after days of testifying against him.
At the time, it seemed like David would have a hard time ever finding work again, let alone at another radio gig. But apparently, it wasn’t too hard. According to the New York Daily News, he was hired at Greenwood, Mississippi radio station KIX to co-host the morning show “Jackson & Jonbob,” under the stage name Stonewall Jackson. He made his debut on Monday morning, and even though the station has been receiving tons of backlash for their decision, Delta Radio CEO Larry Fuss is standing behind David.
“I sat down with him face-to-face in Minneapolis before I offered him the job and talked to him about it,” he told the Daily News. “He’s either the world’s best liar, or he’s telling the truth. I tend to believe his version of the story and most people who have talked to him face-to-face do believe his version of the story.”
He also went on to say that most of Taylor’s fans who have been speaking out about David’s hiring on the KIX Facebook page “need to get a life,” but he also added that they’re “just people who don’t have a clue, or don’t really have any knowledge of the facts” — despite David being convicted of the groping in a court of law.
Understandably, Taylor’s fans are outraged. Aside from their posts on the station’s Facebook page, they’ve also taken to Twitter to voice their concerns:
David Mueller (yes THE one who assaulted Taylor Swift) is now working again under the name Stonewall Jackson. THIS IS NOT OKAY. He was found GUILTY of sexual assault, so why does he deserve a ‘second chance’ why does anyone think anything about this is okay?? ITS NOT

So, David Mueller (THE David Mueller who grabbed @taylorswift13‘s bottom & then sent her a Sacagawea coin) is working in radio again, under the name Stonewall Jaxson. No, I’m serious. You know how many women are BLACKLISTED after coming forward about abuse/harrasment? All of them pic.twitter.com/OvgGrpBXuw

Larry, the head of Delta Radio just told me that the station is giving David Mueller the “opportunity to work” & that he deserves a second chance. He also said that Mueller was “NEVER FOUND GUILTY of anything criminal” & that he denies assaulting Taylor Swift.

Swifties have got a point. Not only does hiring David show a lack of respect toward Taylor and other victims of sexual assault (especially at a time when new accusations against men in the entertainment industry are coming out every day), but it also gives him opportunities to grope other women and artists at future radio events. That’s a very big risk for this station to take, but it doesn’t sound like David’s boss is too worried about it.
It’s not clear yet if KIX will change their tune now that the outrage is becoming widespread. It seems like for now, they’re on the convicted groper’s side… AKA the wrong side of all of the history that’s being made right now… and that’s not a great place to be.
